WILMINGTON, California - Los Angeles Harbor College is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Jaramillo as the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach for the Lady Seahawks, effective immediately.
“In our pursuit to elevate LA Harbor Women’s Basketball to CCCAA prominence, we are delighted to welcome Jason Jaramillo as the new leader of our women’s basketball program,” stated Trujillo. “Coach Jaramillo's leadership commitment to the student-athlete experience made him the ideal candidate to lead our team to success both on and off the court. We are confident he will empower our student-athletes to achieve their academic and athletic aspirations while preparing them for future endeavors at four-year institutions.”
Coach Jaramillo is deeply involved in the basketball community, serving as the Head Coach for West Coast Elite’s Los Angeles 17U National Team, an Advanced Scout for the Los Angeles Sparks, President of Lambda Basketball (Los Angeles’ LGBTQ+ Basketball League), and Vice President of the National Gay Basketball Association.
Coach Jaramillo brings a wealth of coaching experience to LA Harbor College, having most recently served as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach under Bridgette Reyes at Clark University (MA), NCAA Division III. During his two seasons at Clark, he played a vital role in revitalizing the program and helping the team to achieve some remarkable achievements. The team garnered recognition from the WBCA for achieving a team GPA of 3.74, ranking ninth in the nation and also won the Worcester City Tournament beating cross-town rival WPI in the championship game. Additionally, they achieved their best record in over twelve years, securing a spot in the NEWMAC tournament for the first time in seven years. His impact on the basketball program can also be seen off the court with the recruitment of talented student athletes and emphasis on building a team culture around Clark’s “GROWL” (Gratitude, Resilience, Ownership, We > Me & Locked In) team motto. Moreover, Coach Jaramillo directed Clark Athletics Intramurals and served on the Clark Athletics DEI+B Committee.
Prior to Clark University (MA), Jason Jaramillo served under Bradley Alexander for three seasons at Sarah Lawrence College (NY), NCAA Division III. There he helped the program achieve their best win/loss record and most conference wins in a season. He also played a big part in recruiting talented student-athletes that positively changed the program.
A pivotal learning role in Coach Jaramillo’s coaching career came when he served as an assistant at Santa Ana College (CA) under Flo Luppani. During his time at Santa Ana, Jaramillo had a multifaceted role, contributing to player development for posts and wing players, handling day-to-day team duties, and overseeing recruitment, team fundraising, organization of the SAC Showcase, and budget management. While at Santa Ana College, the program had five student athletes named to the all-conference team, including WBCA Junior College All-American and CCCAA Southern California Player of the Year, Blaysen Varnadoe.
Coach Jaramillo also coached at Chadwick School for two seasons as an Assistant Coach. A native of San Pedro, CA, Coach Jaramillo actually started his career journey as a student at LAHC and an intern in the athletic department. Currently, he resides in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA with his husband and their dog, Ruggles.
