LAHC falls to Pierce, 4-2
The Los Angeles Harbor College Seahawks women’s soccer team took on the Brahmas of Pierce College on the 19th of September at LA Harbor College Stadium. The Seahawks enter the matchup with a record of 2-3-1, while the Brahmas have a record of 6-1-2.
The Seahawks started the contest strong with an immediate shot on goal in the second minute from #5 Nicolette Wyrick.
Brahmas quickly responded with a free kick opportunity from 30 yards out from #23, Heidi Ricketts. Ricketts strong kick went vertical off the crossbar the eventually led to a Seahawks reset. Possession then traded off until Ricketts found the back of the net on a straight away from a long cross from #11, Livia Pereira.
The Seahawks responded aggressively with a host of ball control and possession in the following minutes. Forward, #9, Dylan Baer consistently was involved on defensive efforts that made it difficult for the Brahmas to retain control. Wyrick was a consistent break up.
The Brahmas found the back of the net for second time from a 30 yard strike from #10 Victoria Castro in the 20th minute.
The Seahawks continue to show determine and resilience to push their opponents physically and with their speed. Seahawks were advancing the ball after possession switches before the correct opportunity arose for #9 Dylan Baer to find the back of the net in the 27th minute. Baer’s tenacious spirit lived on after her goal as she fought to retrieve the ball at from the back of the net in order to continue the Seahawks momentum.
Defensive vigor continued for the Seahawks as #2 Ariana Alonso was consistently breaking up Brahmas’ attempts to advance the ball.
A handball by the Brahmas led to a PK taken by Ariana Alonso that just missed the lower left corner of the net.
#21, Alexa Alalmo, set the pace on defensive end for the Seahawks with big breakups.
Multiple good plays led to a Brahmas corner kick. This corner found a seam in the Seahawks defense the edged it’s way into the net on a shot from #11 Livia Pereira. The half finished with a score of 3-1 with the Brahmas in the lead.
The 2nd half started with the Seahawks and Brahmas trading control. #8 Cora Craig made great stops to the Brahmas momentum whilst #17 Yamna Areola made great decisions in the middle of the field with the ball.
A stolen ball led to a streak down the field with control from Wyrick that led to an assisted goal sent to Dylan Baer. This is her second goal of the day and brings the Seahawks to 3-2.
Seahawks post half game plan definitely keeping the Brahmas on their toes as #7 Julissa Mercado’s athleticism kept Harbor on the offensive end. It was hard to find a play that #11, Melanie Ramos, was involved in for the Seahawks. Consistently involved in offensive and defensive plays.
Wyrick and Areola prove to be a valuable contributor of defense, speed and smart playmaking for the Seahawks. The Seahawks and Brahmas trade offensive streaks through the 60th minute of the contest.
Possession continued to split through the 70th minute with both teams moving deep into each others defensive lines. Cora Craig (#8) proved it takes tough play to move the offense through her side of the defense. #21 Alexa Alalma made great plays to stifle the Brahmas progression into the Seahawks defensive area.
A foul called in the 77th minute stifled a 40 yard goal that found the back of the net for the Seahawks. Volume in the stadium erupted following the call.
Teams were trading offensive possession before a throw in lead to an aggressive cross that benefited the Brahmas with a goal by #2 Nalani Caesarez - putting them up 4-2.
Following the goal, the Seahawks showcased some amazing footwork from #10 Andrea Reyes that led to a shot of goal that was saved by the Brahmas Goalkeeper.
The contest concluded with the Brahmas edging the Seahawks, 4-2. Seahawks advance to 2-4-2 on the season and look to have success on Friday in their matchup at Allan Hancock.
